Recent U17 - Colleen Pancake News

A big congratulations to our SSVBC 17’s team, on a very successful February.  The girls went undefeated in their Power League at the beginning of the month, moving up to Flight 2 for March.  They worked their way through pool play, earning 2-0 wins over Sudden Impact, Evergreen Juniors, and 253 Elite.  They then went on to earn a hard-fought victory over Puyallup Juniors 17’s (25-21, 22-25, 15-5) to secure a seed in Flight 2, and then capped off the day with a 2-1 win over Island Thunder.  Behind the strong offensive from Danielle Tabor, Rachel Levenseller, Haley Vick, and Megan Schneck, the steady defense of Macall Virnig, Alex King, and Brittany Brooks, and the consistent setting of Ally Rennie and Seirra Hoover, it was a true team effort.

The girls then took on the NW Junior’s President’s Day weekend tournament February 18 – 20.  Day 1 started out strong, with the team going undefeated in pool play, beating Aces 18’s, Alaska AVA 17’s, and Spokane Sky 17’s.  Day 2 provided tougher competition, with losses to Oregon Juniors 17’s and Trailsend 18’s.  The girls finished out the evening on a high note, with a hard-fought 2-1 win over a tough Salem Juniors 18’s team.  The girls were down 10-4 in game 3, but behind the offensive fire power of Haley Vick and the tough serving run of Ally Rennie, the girls came out on top, 15-12.  Day 3 started with a first round 2-1 win over VIP 17s.  The team then went on to face NWCVBC and lost in a 3 set match, after losing outside Brittany Brooks to a concussion.  Down 6-2 in game 3, the six healthy players left fought their way back in it, but came up short 11-15.  Regardless of the loss of players, the girls showed heart and determination to end the weekend 11th out of 32 teams, and 2nd out of the 17’s teams at the tournament.  Coaches Colleen and Chelsea are proud of the way their team battled the past two tournaments, and are happy with the improvement the girls are making.  The 17’s play again on March 4th for Power League #3.
