Career Record 144-55
Angela Spoja enters her sixth season coaching the Titan Volleyball program this fall. Coach Spoja’s record makes her one of the NWAACC's most winning volleyball coaches.
In 2006-07, her first year at the helm, the Titans went (10-4). In her second year 2007-08, the Titans went undefeated in league with a record of (14-0), and ended the season with a 38-11 win/loss record, making that one of the best records in the NWAACC. In 2008-09, her fourth season, with only 4 sophomores and a starting line up of all freshmen, Spoja led her team to another West Region Championship, with the record of 11-3. This past season, 2009-10, the Titans were ranked number 3 in the NWAACC Coaches Poll throughout the entire season. TCC volleyball won the West Region Championship for the fourth consecutive year and finished up with a record of (39-8).
Under Spoja, TCC's teams have dominated the Western Region for the past 5 years, including the past 4 as Region Champions. Spoja has a career winning record of (144-55) and has also earned Coach of the Year--Western Region honors in 2006 2007, and 2010.
In her 5 years at the helm, Spoja has sent over 20 players on to 4 year colleges, including 2 players to a NCAA Division I school.
Spoja still plays competitive volleyball with her women’s team Island Style. They have spent many years dominating the region and have many regional titles. Coach Spoja goes to nationals each year to promote volleyball among women of all age groups.
Spoja started her volleyball career at TCC. From TCC, Spoja received a scholarship from Eastern Washington University where she finished her college career. She then moved for a brief time to California to play beach volleyball, before moving home to start her family. She has played in the American Volleyball Professionals (AVP) and the AVP Next, which started in California with the purpose of promoting beach volleyball in cities like Seattle. Coach Spoja started The Edge club volleyball in Tacoma six years ago, and is now merging with UPVBC to make one of the regions top club teams, South Sound Volleyball Club.
Spoja has focused on building a program in which Tacoma Community College players are recruited to play at 4-year NCAA Division I and II programs. She is looking for players with strong work ethic, athletic ability, and the desire to learn. More than fifteen years of coaching club volleyball, high school volleyball, and starting her career as a student coach at Eastern, have prepared her well for the task ahead at Tacoma Community College.
Spoja lives in Lakewood with her husband Jaron, and their 3 children, Sydney (17), J.J. (12) and Sophia (10).
