The girls performed wonderfully at Regionals this weekend, and they struggled through a number of tough matches to win the Silver Bracket Championship. We started off Saturday playing a tough match against the number two seed at the tourney, Sudden Impact VBC. Although we took the first set easily, SIVBC came back swinging and pulled off the second, and SIVBC managed to take the match in the third game. From there, we took the next match against Cascade 13s, and then we lost our third match to Gig Harbor Red. Despite the losses, the girls played hard, and every match we played that morning went to three sets.
We ended the first round of pool play in 3rd place, which set us up to be in the Silver Bracket. During the second round of pool play, we easily took matches from Seattle Jrs. and Pacific Coast VBA, and then we once more came up against Mike's SSVBC team. Although our girls fought hard, Mike's team won the day, and we came out 2nd in that pool.
In bracket, we faced off against Cascade, and although they pushed us to 3 sets, we took the match and continued on to play Mercer Island VBC in the championship. The first set against Mercer was tough, but the girls battled hard and we actually came from behind to win at the very end. The win seemed to energize the girls, and they came out strong and put the match away with ease.
Overall, the two days of Regionals were tough but rewarding. We got the opportunity to play a number of teams who we hadn't played before, and we found that we were up to the challenge of playing some of the toughest teams in the region - teams we will come up against next weekend at the Bid Tourney. We have one last week of hard work at practice before our last tournament and see if we can manage to snag that Bid for Nationals.
